The first Regional Awareness Day on Lymphedema, is organized by non-profit organization SOS Lymphedema, National Association for patients of lymphedema and related disorders, credited on the portal ORPHANET and on the website of the Ministry of Health and ITA.LF, Italian Extension INTERNATIONAL Lymphoedema Framework , the leading international association dedicated to Lymphology globally uniting associations of patients, lymphologists Doctors, Physiotherapists and Companies industry.
Lymphedema, according to the WHO definition, is a chronic, progressive and debilitating. The main characteristic of lymphedema is the slowing of the lymphatic circulation to the lower limbs but also usually higher, with accumulation of lymph and increased limb volume hit; the progression of the disease can result in considerable increase of the volume and weight of the limb, with occurrence of complications; these conditions may lead to important functional and psychological limitations problemaiche with considerable impairment of patient quality of life. The direct day to doctors and also to people with lymphedema and their families, was born with the aim to simply and directly about the knowledge and innovations with regard to the possibility of prevention and treatment of that disease, and also to put comparing the experience of physicians who are confronted every day with lymphedema.
The disease often in the territory does not find an adequate service; even worse by this shortage comes taking charge of these patients, but looking for an answer to their problems, by anyone, even non-health, low-skilled.
A roundtable with representatives of different institutional realities, will address specifically the welfare problems of such patients.
